Based on the CMIP6 experiment design, forcing and future scenario, we will introduce the need of an Earth System Model (ESM) and how to model the global climate variability. We will briefly discuss the physics and dynamics associated with the major components within the ESM; including the atmosphere, ocean, land and sea-ice. The NCAR-Community Earth System Model will be used as an example to address these components. The students will need to practice, analyze and interpret the model results.
